Kaseya Cyberattack: As 4th of July Weekend Ramps Up, End Customers Ransomed

MSP software provider Kaseya fell victim to a cyber security ransomware attack affecting nearly 50 managed service providers this past Friday. Just ahead of a major American holiday, this attack is yet another example of the critical importance of protecting global business from cyber-attacks, and is the 2nd major attack against service provider companies following the Solarwinds attack in early 2020.

The attack was levied against Kaseya’s VSA remote monitoring and management tool, software used by IT managed service providers and to manage, patch, and remotely control its customer networks.

As of Sunday afternoon, Kaseya is still working with its affected MSP customers. The fallout and impact to the end customers managed by these MSPs is yet unknown. The potential damage appears to be limited to Kaseya’s 6,500 on-premise VSA customers. According to Voccola, Kaseya does have a cyber insurance policy in place, however isn’t sure at this point what the economic impact of the ransomware attack will be.
